I’m no expert but I have always considered art authentication as more of a science. I think in the realm of science AI can indeed be useful (though even there it can be used for good or ill). For the creative world however, I think extreme wariness and skepticism is warranted. It reminds me of the early days of social media, how fun it was to make new connections and share our worlds before the fakery, disinformation and tribalism took over. It’s a double edged sword.

I think that AI is a tragedy for the art community and true human artists and their art being muddled with the fakery of AI. The loss burns like acid on the art and soul of the humans who make it.

In the art community there is a growing movement that allows for AI or digital art to be used for inspiration in the making of art for contests which include traditional media with the provision that such AI works also be rendered in traditional media. This will aid in leveling the playing field.

Very interesting story. I think AI can be used for a lot of good things such as health issues help in writing a story, and many other ways. But it can also be used for negative reasons. As we know in the world there are people with wrong motives. Thanks so much for a great story about that painting.
